Reason #1 you don’t want to miss out on the Ultimate Pitching Coaches Boot Camp Dec 8-10th 2006 DVD's -
Brent Strom & Ron Wolforth
There are two men that hundreds of Pitching Coaches at all levels of baseball turn to for reasonable and practical assistance with their pitchers. Why do they turn to these two men?
-
These two men are truly more interested in ‘getting it right’ than in ‘being thought of as right’…or in ‘getting credit for being the smartest guy in the room’. They are teachers first. They don’t care who gets credit. They want to help each individual pitcher achieve his dream. That fact alone means a whole lot to the rank and file coach busting his rear down in the trenches every single day…so its no wonder why coaches gravitate to these two men.
-
They are reasonable…approachable…and down to earth. Their instincts are to share and teach and not to hoard, criticize, bloviate or to lecture. They are constant students of the game, continually studying gurus House, Shaw/Thurston (which is therefore Mills), Marshall, Jaeger, Weinstein, Dixon and Nyman. They also are students of experts in other areas such as Gambetta, Odgers, Santana, Versetgan, Ravizza, Hanson, Furey and Donley…just to name a few.
-
They are on the battlefield every day themselves. To these two men, baseball pitching is not theory, a book tour, a DVD sale, marketing or consulting…it is hands on in the dirt and sweat of the pen.
-
They work with the same pitchers day after day…just like you do. They not only understand your universe…they live in your universe...and unlike so many other gurus they are intimately familiar with the common problems YOU are experiencing.
-
They have a proven track record. They have produced Major League pitchers.
-
They have failed and adjusted enough times so they have learned through experience what works and made sure you don’t have to go through the same long trial and error process yourself.
-
They are seasoned, experienced and have been around the block a few times. They will help you cut your learning curve in half.
-
Although they live a 1000 miles away from each other, they are partners. They work together constantly. They act as each other’s check and balances. Their perspectives and backgrounds are very different. And because of that they make a great team. One D-I coach recently quipped, I’ve got a “Strom +Wolforth’ and that trumps your one of a kind guru.”

"If I were to send my son to a pitching boot camp I would go no further than Strom and Wolforth. To have a former MLB Big League pitching coach and coordinator (Strom-Astros-Royals-Expos-Nationals) and one of baseball's most innovative pitching instructors (Wolforth-Pitching Central) in one arena at the same time is unmatched. These guys are two of the main architects of modern pitching. They are around it everyday. They teach pitching with an array of experience and the application of sound teaching modalities.
Strom and Wolforth have a peerless understanding of the game of pitching. Not only will you get the best instruction on pitching, but also you will develop personal motivational techniques and ideas about the psychology of winning that will take you to the upper levels. Expect to be challenged. Brent and Ron will increase your pitching IQ to the maximum."
Gary Hatch, Head Baseball Coach Sehome HS Bellingham Washington USA Junior Olympic Baseball Staff/Pitching Coach
Coach Wolforth,
Congratulations on establishing the partnership between Coach Strom and you at the Can-Am Academy! What a wonderful event for Baseball! As I have watched the growth of Can-Am, I marveled at your drive to build the best Pitching Academy in the country. Well my friend, I thought you had the best Academy in the country already, but with Coach Strom, this clearly puts you as the gold standard.
Ron, I was at your Pitching Boot Camp Seminar for Coaches when I was fortunate to listen and meet Coach Strom. What a wonderful person. His love for baseball permeated the room. The dialogue between Coach Strom and you establish such a great environment of enthusiasm and true love for what you do, everyone in the room benefited. I watched as College Coaches and High School Coaches engaged in lively debate on timely topics. Now that Coach Strom is going to be with us once a month, I can only imagine the programs, exercises, drills, and insight you boys will come up with.
I remembered that when my son was visiting colleges and the College Coaches would always say, “We think we can add 2 to 3 mph on your fastball.” I saw at the good programs they could gain those final miles. I had conversations with other Dads that heard the same thing. As Dads, we always wanted to know why we couldn’t get someone to show our sons how to add that final 2 to 3 miles an hour NOW! It is great to know there is a place where dedicated athletes can go to gain those final miles per hour.
I can say without a doubt Ron, you have been the single greatest influence on my son. You have established solid mechanics and built up his core strength, that have allowed him to eliminate elbow problems, increase his speed from 81 to 91 mph, turn his curve ball from a spinner to a true curve with late bite, More importantly, you have taught him how to pitch! He pitched this last weekend and won a Championship Regional World Series game against one of the best teams in the nation, and he did it without his best stuff.
Now saying that, let me tell you that the session that you and Coach Strom worked with Graham was tremendous. From what you all showed my son, those small tweaks, took him from 91 mph, to over the past two weeks he has hit 92 and 93 mph! My son’s College Coach was in the stands (Graham is going to Vanderbilt) with me and watched a game a couple of weeks ago against another top national team. He was on that day. Our College Coach said, “I have never seen Graham throw like this. This puts a whole new spin on things for next year!” I had a Scout come up to me and asked, “What the heck has gotten into your son! He has been throwing well but, I have never seen him look this sharp! He looks great.” Those final touches, refinements Coach Strom and you made in my son’s delivery made the difference.
Thanks Ron! Save a session for us with you and Coach Strom! See you soon.

Post Script: Graham Godfrey is now a Toronto Blue Jay. Graham was drafted by Toronto this June, hit 95mph at the Cape this summer and signed with Toronto this September. He will be training with Coach Strom & Wolforth in the winter at the Texas Baseball Ranch. www.texasbaseballranch.com

Reason #2 you don’t want to miss out on the Ultimate Pitching Coaches Boot Camp DVD's -
Perry Husband
Now, for the first time, some one has actually taken the time and care to analyze a pitch by pitch-( including velocity, movement and location) vs. solid contact relationship in Major League baseball.
“Not only is Perry a good friend, he is one of my greatest teachers. I personally would have no hesitation in paying $300 to listen to him discuss ‘effective velocity’ for a couple hours. I say that because I did indeed do just that. I believe the concept of ‘Effective Velocity’ to be that profound and just as importantly THAT applicable. I know Brent Strom, Derek Johnson and Gary Hatch all really believe in his stuff and that is a top Pro, a top College Pitching Coach and an elite HS Coach. I’ve already applied the building blocks of the concept with my son Garrett who will soon turn 9. I fully believe that ‘Effective velocity’ IS the future for pitchers and understanding it is a huge advantage. And in Houston, Dec 9th 2006, you’ll get to hear about EV from the concept originator himself.”
Coach Wolforth
From Perry Husband himself: The Downright Failthy Pitching Series is a very in depth study of speed as it relates to the hitter’s reaction time.
Effective Velocity is the initial velocity plus the locational effects of the pitch due to the ball entering the hitting zone at different locations. In other words ‘Effective Velocity’ is the initial velocity plus the effects of the pitch brought about by the baseball’s different locations affecting the reaction times/pressures for 100% on time contact..
For example: When a pitch is thrown at 90 MPH of initial velocity, it has 9 different possible speed zones it will enter depending on the location of the pitch. Within the strike zone, there are 5 time zones. A 90 MPH pitch can and does equal many different speeds, depending on where the pitch is located.
This Series is about learning how to use that information to the fullest degree to maximize all of the ingredients that make pitchers truly Filthy. Over 10 years of study and testing of amateur hitters and two years of intense study of major league at bats in a 4 million pitch database have lead to some astonishing findings. Hitters have an attention (an expectation of what pitch they are prepared for) that can be measured, tracked, predicted and even thrown around.
Through the study of time based statistics or the statistics that are directly related to how well timed the hitter is to the pitch, we can show you how major league hitters’ statistics are dramatically affected when pitchers throw pitch sequences that take advantage of the optimum Effective Velocities and locations.
Downright Filthy Pitching is not about statistics, even though they are used to prove the theories. This work is designed to show you how to make statistics. In the pitcher/hitter confrontation, whoever controls time, wins. It really is that simple. Time is at work against you or for you all the time, do you know how well you use time?

Reason #3 you don’t want to miss out on the Ultimate Pitching Coaches Boot Camp DVD's -
Paul Nyman
The Most Outspoken and Controversial Man in Baseball...
On Dec 8-10th 2006 we held our 6th Annual Pitching Symposium in Houston Texas. One of the keynote speakers was Paul Nyman of SETPro. His two topics include “The Real Truth about Pitching Mechanics. What most don’t know is ruining their career” and “How to Develop the 100mph delivery”.
This brilliant, blunt, candid and straightforward man takes no prisoners. His approach is a no holds barred, in your face, practical genius. Nyman is certainly no shrinking violet. He has written pieces called “Why most baseball coaches have NO Hope of helping kids.’ And “The Blind leading the Blind”.
Nyman is an engineer by training. He just happens to love baseball.
Coach Ron Wolforth & Coach Brent Strom swear by him. Some in the elite circles of the baseball community swear AT him.

Phil Donley
With injury rates at an all time high for pitchers …How important would it be for you to keep your #1 & #2 pitchers on the bump this entire season?
Is Your Pitcher S.I.C.K? Does he have Scapular Rotator Dysfunction? How would you even know? Is He at Risk Unnecessarily? Does He Have G.I.R.D? Glenohumeral Internal-Rotation Deficit… What simple, easy things can you do to protect your pitchers?
Consider this discussion by Dr. David Lintner, Houston Astros Head Physician.
In most throwers the scapula moves in an abnormal way. This occurs because of the repetitive use of the shoulder, and the changes that develop in any muscle that is used strenuously again and again. However, these changes are detrimental to shoulder function and can increase the chances of injury. Another very common condition in throwers is contracture / tightness of the shoulder capsule on the back portion (posterior) of the shoulder. This is very common in throwers, and contributes to the SICK Scapula problem. Lifting weights, particularly chest exercises such as bench press, can aggravate this condition. The athlete with “SICK Scapula Syndrome” will hold the affected shoulder lower than the other and also rotated forward. This looks like a slouched position, but with one shoulder more slouched than the other. If you look around you will see a lot athletes with this posture.

He is the author of 1 book, has edited 2 books, contributed to 20 books, presented 45 original papers on Sports Medicine, published 16 articles and delivered over 210 talks on Sports Medicine subjects.
His most recent research activity has focused on an eight-year study of professional baseball players. Since 1998 he has measured 58 variables on 1300 pitchers and 250 position players on one professional team and over 200 pitchers of ages 10-40 in private practice. Prevention and rehabilitation methods have been developed and applied that have resulted in a significant decrease in the frequency and severity of throwing injuries. This has resulted in decreased lost time and lowered health care costs. Using new exercises has also improved mechanical efficiency and effectiveness for the throwing motion. Equally important has been the positive results of using these methods for a wide variety of shoulder and elbow problems in the general population who are exposed to risk in their occupations or during recreational activities.
He will speak in Houston for the second time at the Ultimate Pitching Coaches Boot Camp. His lectures were enlightening and vitally important if training pitchers/ throwers is your profession.

Tom Hanson
This symposium will NOT look past The Mental Game !
Education
- Ph.D. in sport psychology from the University of Virginia (1991)
- M.S. in sport psychology from the University of Illinois (1987)
- Certified Personal and Professional Coach, The Newfield Network (2000)
- Certified Yoga Teacher, Kripalu Yoga Center, (1996)
You know the feeling: Totally confident, “locked in,” fully focused on each pitch. The ball or catcher’s mitt looks big, the game feels slow and you are totally in control. But you also know the opposite feeling: Clueless, off balance, scared. Everything but you is moving 120 miles-per-hour and your confidence is going, going, gone. If you are like most players, you play as well as you feel. When you feel confident, you play great. When you don’t feel confident, you struggle. So the key is to learn how to feel confident and focused on a consistent basis.
Most players leave the mental game to chance. They ride the “Results Rollercoaster” -- when their statistics are up, their confidence is up, when their numbers are falling, their spirits dive with them.
|
Mental toughness is the ability to consistently play at or near your best, regardless of circumstances.
