| Coach Strom watches over his young Cardinal pitchers at Spring Training Jupiter Florida 08 |
|
| This Year’s Line Up:
Brent Strom- St. Louis Cardinals Brent is considered by many as the quintessential bridge between the concepts, philosophies and teachings of Marshall, House, Mills, Thurston, Dixon and Nyman. He is the ultimate practical applicator! He has studied them all and uses pieces of all of them. Brent is not a theorist. He is the consumate teacher motivated primarily not by ‘who’ is right but more interested in ‘what has been proven to work’. Brent has constantly wrestled with the established dogma and rigidity of professional baseball which is typically very reactionary to new things and has come out on the other end as a trusted pioneer and innovator. He is one of the most approachable men in professional baseball and is one of the primary reasons the Ultimate Pitching Coaches Boot Camp has become by far and away the most practical and useful clinic for pitching coaches in the world today.
Brent’s Topics: -Redefining how we look at ‘mechanics’ –Why the traditional paradigm of ‘mechanics’ is no longer applicable and why we must look back and look forward to create a more effective way. -Arm Action, Pelvic Loading, Scapular Loading, Momentum, Rhythm and Tempo, Intent, Pronation, Hyperflexion, Acromial Line, Stride Length, Direction, Balance, Head & Eyes Level, Stay Back, Pause at the Top, the Use of the Glove Side…What does all this mean…What’s truly important and what’s someone trying to sell their theory or books & videos.

Eric Cressey, Cressey Performance: Eric has rapidly established himself as one of the most sought-after coaches and writers in the field of strength and conditioning. A record-setting powerlifter himself, Eric is unique in his ability to blend his “in-the-trenches” experience with a solid coaching background and extensive academic preparation. In an industry full of condescending coaches who don’t practice what they preach and those who lack even the most basic knowledge of exercise physiology, Eric Cressey is a breath of fresh air: an approachable professional who brings science and practice together. Located in the Greater Boston area, Eric specializes in athletic performance enhancement, injury prevention and corrective exercise, maximal strength development, and physique enhancement. As such, he is a highly acclaimed consultant for healthy and injured athletes alike. Regardless of your fitness goal, Eric can get you to where you want to be. Eric’s Topics: -Building The Complete and Superior Pitching Athlete- The Common myths and misconceptions regarding strength development and conditioning of the pitching athlete which actually inhibit or constrain their performance and development. -Simple steps that you can immediately implement the day you return to campus to assist your pitchers in becoming a superior performer. The critical nature of mobility, flexibility, strength balance, core symmetry and alignment with regards to the health, durability and performance of the pitching athlete. The physical assessment of pitchers…simple steps that every coach can and should do.
Phil Donley PT, ATC, MS: NATA Athletic Training Hall of Fame, ATC consultant to the Philadelphia Phillies, has measured/ tested over 1500 Elite pitchers and is one of the world’s most trusted authority on injuries to pitchers and the contributing factors to those injuries. The Phillies and Pirates both have benefited significantly from Phil’s practical and pragmatic approach on preparing the pitching athlete for the extreme stresses found in a 7 month competitive season. The key to your success in 2009 will certainly be in part as to how well you keep your top arms on the mound and off of the trainer’s table or operating room. In this year’s lectures Phil will focus upon identifying common flexibility and symmetry issues in pitchers, as well as GIRD and a SICK scapula and how to prevent them. And this year Phil will focus his presentation on demonstrating some exact exercises on how specifically to identify and treat a pitcher with one or more of these 3 issues and how to get him back on the mound sooner. As a pitching coach, keeping your #1-#3 guys healthy all year may be one of the most important things you can do for your program and Phil’s presentations are a must see for that result. Phil’s Topics: -What is GIRD? Why is it a problem for pitchers? How to prevent it and treat it! -What is a Sick Scapula? Why is it a problem for pitchers? How to prevent it and treat it! -What are common Mobility and Asymmetry Issues for Pitchers? Why every pitching coach in America should pay attention to their pitcher’s mobility and core asymmetries? | Coach Wolforth With Some of his Elite Pitchers After a Training Session at The Texas Baseball Ranch |
|
| Ron Wolforth, Pitching Central, The Texas Baseball Ranch: ‘Practical application’ are the words that so many attribute to Ron. He is viewed by many in the high school and college ranks as the ‘pitching coaches’ pitching coach and the ‘father of objective measurement for pitchers’. He has influenced thousands with his best selling manual ‘The Athletic Pitcher’ and his follow-up work The Combat Pitcher.-Preparing the pitcher for battle. Recently Coach Wolforth has teamed up with Flint Wallace of Weatherford College (Formerly director of baseball operations at TCU) to create ‘The Pitchers Tool Box’. A 2 DVD set of pitching drills designed to give pitching coaches options when trying to address various mechanical flaws, inefficiencies or performance inadequacies. Coach is fond of saying, “We don’t want to use an axe when a scalpel will do. The key to being a good teacher is knowing what to change, what to leave alone and leaving as few fingerprints on your pitcher’s delivery as possible when it is necessary to change something.” Also recently he has teamed up with Brent Strom to create his latest advancement in training pitchers, ‘Blending’, the art and science of transferring the feel of the drill to the game time delivery. We’ve all experienced a player who could perform a drill very well but there was little if any carryover to his game time performance. Coach Wolforth and Coach Strom address this universal disconnect and how they have specifically used the new Blending protocols to really accelerate their pitchers learning in an amazing 2 DVD set, which will be available to the public for the first time at the UPCBC in December. During the Boot Camp, Coach Wolforth will also share his other passion: Developing the Explosive and Athletic Pitcher. Since 2003 and his development of the Athletic pitcher Program, 41 of his students have been drafted and over 75 have broken the 90mph barrier. During his first presentation he will share his latest training using ropes and chains. Ron’s Topics: -Neuromuscular Blending-Simple steps in getting 3 &4 times the carryover from YOUR drills, transferred over to YOUR pitchers delivery/performance in a game ? -The Ranch Training of pitchers utilizing ropes & chains to develop explosiveness durability, open neural pathways and increase neuromuscular efficiency in pitchers

Perry Husband, Author of Downright Filthy Pitching Series. And Originator of the Concept of Effective Velocity (EV): Perry is an author, private pitching/hitting instructor and consultant. Maybe no one in history of baseball has done a deeper analysis into why some pitches are hit hard while others are not. Instead of the classic paradigms of ‘hard in -soft away’, ‘pitching backward’, ‘first pitch strike’ or ‘throw strikes early, throw balls late’ etc., Perry explains the science behind what pitches get squared up and what pitches tie hitters up. We’ve all thrown good pitches at an ideal location that were turned around and thrown others not so ideal that froze or overmatched a good hitter. Perry explains in detail why things like that happen and how we can use the concepts of hitter’s attention theory, ‘pressure pitches’ and the natural characteristics of the width, height and depth of the strike zone and the ideal contact zones for the hitter to make our pitchers ‘filthy’. Perry’s Topics: -What is EV and why it is a ‘game changer’ when a pitching staff masters the concept? -Video Examples of EV at work. -How to train and develop EV into your daily pitching practice regimen.
Joe Fletcher, ExtremePitching.com: Joe Fletcher is a former pitcher with the New York Yankees and Montreal Expo organizations and a former college pitching coach at Michigan State and Jacksonville University. Joe is fresh, innovative and isn’t afraid to color outside the lines. Joe’s topic is one that should be of great interest to everyone: The Recovery Process: How it relates to food, workouts, mechanics and your mental / emotional state.
Dr. Tom Hanson, Co-Author of Heads Up Baseball, Baseball Confidence.com: Dr. Hanson will discuss the mental game as it relates to the pitching athlete. Tom offers a step by step process for developing the mental/ emotional side of the game. Concepts such as confidence, focus, poise, composure and discipline etc. are not yes or no answers and just like their physical counterparts, they can indeed be developed and conditioned.
Andy Whitney- Using Kettle Bells in Baseball- Andy is a member of the Pitching Central Inner Circle and an elite personal trainer in the state of Michigan specializing in baseball. Andy is especially expert in the use of Kettle Bells and in his presentation will demonstrate how to best utilize the incredibly versatile and effective kettle bell in your strength development. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the kettle bell, Andy will bring you up to speed quickly. For those who are already utilizing the kettle bell, Andy will help you spice up your program.
